CHR REGION I RESPONDS TO OUR REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION

Re: Request for Investigation

11 Aug 2013 PST/12 Aug PhTime

Thank you so much, Atty Romel P. Daguimil.

In the interest of transparency, we would like to know of the results of your investigation.

The Ilokano public deserves to know.

The various ethnolinguistic groups of the Philippines--more than 170+ of them--deserve to know.

We have cc-d Chair Etta Rosales for her information on the action you will be doing.

Respectfully,

Chair, Commission on Human Rights

Dear Atty. Daguimol,

We are concerned about this incident pertaining to the expulsion of three 13-year old boys because they spoke Ilokano in their school. The Rev Dr Brian Shah, president of the Saviour’s Christian Academy in Laoag City, effected the expulsion on July 31.

From our sense, we see that this actuation of Rev Shah is in clear violation of the fundamental linguistic rights of these students, rights that are protected by our laws and by international covenants of which the Philippines is a signatory.

We thought of coming to your office knowing that your office makes it sure that rights as basic as these ones are inalienable and thus, must be protected at all times.

Very truly yours,
